Instructors

Dr. Alia El-Mowafy BDS, MSc, Dip. ADBA, Dental Anesthesiologist

Dr. El-Mowafy is a board certified Dental Anaesthesiologist. She practices in the GTA providing anaesthesia predominantly for specialists. She practices various anesthesia techniques and serves all patient demographics. She particularly enjoys the challenge and reward of treating pediatric patients. She also teaches at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto acting as a clinical instructor to graduate residents in the Dental Anaesthesia program. She is the immediate past president of the Ontario Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
 

Dr. El-Mowafy is passionate about safety in the office-based environment. Her Master's project focused on investigating the safety of sedations specifically in the dental environment where she retrospectively reviewed cases where severe morbidity or mortality occurred. This made her very passionate to work on improving patient outcomes by improving clinician comfort and expertise in emergencies.

Dr. Rachel Tobis B.Sc., DDS, M.Sc., Dip ADBA, Dental Anesthesiologist

Dr. Rachel Tobis obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto and pursued further expertise through a three-year specialty program in dental anaesthesia at the same institution. She currently practices dental anaesthesia in Kitchener and the GTA in private practice. In addition, she is a clinical instructor for the dental anaesthesia residents at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. 

Dr. Tobis is passionate about providing dental and medical professionals with essential skills to navigate challenging scenarios, enhancing patient safety and procedural outcomes. 

Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch B.Sc., DDS, M.Sc., Dip. A.D.B.A., Dental Anesthesiologist

Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch is a Dentist-Anesthesiologist in Toronto offering sedation and dentistry services to adults, children, special care and medically compromised patients. She is an Assistant Professor at University of Toronto where she provides instruction in medical emergencies, nitrous oxide sedation, local anesthesia, and deep sedation and general anesthesia. She is Courtesy Staff at Sunnybrook Hospital and a Course Director and Certified Instructor in BLS, ACLS and PALS. 

Dr. Eric Monteiro MD, MSc, FRCSC

Eric Monteiro is an associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto, and the department chief at Sinai Health.  Dr. Monteiro received his MD and residency training from the University of Toronto. He went on to complete 2 years of advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive skull base surgery, head and neck surgical oncology and rhinology.  He also completed an MSc in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the Institute of Healthy Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Lucia Santos DDS MSc Dental Anesthesia

Dr. Lucia Santos is a dental anaesthesiologist trained at the University of Toronto, where she earned both her Doctor of Dental Surgery and a Master of Science in Dental Anaesthesiology. During this time, Dr. Santos was actively involved in research at The Hospital for Sick Children, investigating pain management strategies for neonates undergoing painful procedures. Alongside her clinical and research training, Dr. Santos has presented at provincial and international anaesthesiology conferences and has published on topics including analgesia, airway management, and local anaesthesia. She enjoys collaborating with dental teams to support high-quality care for patients and now provides a full spectrum of anaesthesia and sedation services in the Toronto area..
